『我慢』就是貢高我慢，這是五種『煩惱』之一，『貪、瞋、癡、慢、疑』中的第四種『煩惱』，起貢高我慢心的人，就是自大與自滿的現象，總認為別人都不如自己，要以『謙虛』、『恭敬』、『禮讓』的心態，來對治自己的貢高我慢。會有貢高我慢心的人，在世間求學、修道就不會再進步了。他的現象就像一個裝滿水的瓶子，再注入水就溢出來了。『謙虛』的意思，這個『虛』就表示空虛，裡面如果是空虛的，就能再裝進東西。貢高我慢就是『自滿』的現象，自己把自己裝的很滿了，自己認為滿足了，新的學問、知識，就不能再裝進去了
