Mats Hummels一記頭槌球，一舉把德國帶進準決賽，連續四屆世界盃至少晉級四強，也是世界盃史上第一支達成此記錄的隊伍。

Hummels在第13分鐘接應Toni Kroos的自由球吊中，並在Raphaël Varane阻斷未果下，以頭槌破門，最終德國就靠這一球，以1：0淘汰法國。

雙方進攻態勢皆不明顯，德國9次射門，法國13次，角球機會也各為3次與5次，法國在最後10分鐘有較明顯的反撲，但均未掌握機會。

Karim Benzema 第94分鐘最後一搏，禁區左路起腳，彈道準確但被德國門將Manuel Neuer 一掌撥掉，法國無力回天。

德國從2002年日韓世界盃起，都至少晉級到四強，是史上第一支能連續四屆世界盃都晉級到準決賽的隊伍，曾於2002年晉級到決賽。
