句中compared to 的用法

It is fortunate for us that although languages change,
they do so rather slowly compared to the human life span.

對吾人而言所幸的是，語言雖變化，但較諸人類壽命，它們變化得頗為緩慢。

請教一下
compared to the human life span 是什麼詞類,

這是分詞構句，屬於副詞性質修飾其主句或述部，亦即修飾"they do so rather slowly"
或"do so"。

do 在此當強調動詞 compared 嗎故用do,但是前後句都是現在式為何用過去式,

do不是強調動詞，compared也不是動詞。
It是虛主詞，後面從that開始到句尾整串是名詞子句擔任滯後主詞(delayed subject)，
do so是「動詞+受詞」。
compared不是過去式，而是分詞，亦即being compared省略being；
前面說過"compared to the human life span"是副詞性質的分詞構句。
