比爾蓋茲捐5億美元抗瘧疾

美國首富、微軟創辦人比爾蓋茲(Bill Gates)2日宣佈，他將捐贈5億美元，協助開發中國家對抗瘧疾等傳染病。

比爾蓋茲在紐奧良舉行的第63屆「美國熱帶醫學暨衛生學會」(American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene)年會上，作了這項宣布。比爾蓋茲表示，「比爾暨梅琳達蓋茲基金會」(Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation)今年將再捐贈5億美元，協助開發中國家對抗瘧疾、肺炎、腹瀉性疾病等會導致死亡或殘疾的疾病。

蓋茲也表示，除了這5億美元外，蓋茲基金會對抗瘧疾的經費每年將增加30%。

蓋茲也舉正在蔓延的伊波拉疫情為例，強調各國應做更努力，在傳染病產生威脅前，做好防範措施，例如抗藥性的瘧疾和登革熱等。

「比爾暨梅琳達蓋茲基金會」在9月時已經宣布，提供5,000萬美元給聯合國和其他國際團體，對抗伊波拉疫情之用。
