Heraeus claims patent for Te-added glass material used to manufacture PV paste
Nuying Huang, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 18 March 2015]
Germany-based Heraeus has announced joint possession with Japan-based Shoei Chemical of a patent regarding Te (tellurium)-added glass material used to make conductive silver PV paste. The patent is likely to kick up patent disputes with other PV paste makers, mainly DuPont, Samsung SDI and Giga Solar Materials, according to industry sources.
Heraeus has obtained the patent in the US, Japan, China and Taiwan.
Glass material under the patent contains 25-90mol/L of tellurium oxide. Other silver PV paste makers also use Te-added glass material, and the tellurium content of such materials is likely to be similar to that of the glass material used by Heraeus, the sources said.
