印度擴大牛肉禁令連動物園獅子也遭殃

一名印度馬哈拉施特拉邦省的農夫想賣掉家中的老牛為妹妹籌得婚禮資金，卻遍尋不著買主，因為執政黨印度人民黨（BJP）本月起在該省擴大牛隻屠宰禁令。

BJP為了保護廣受印度教信徒尊崇的牛隻，本月起將牛隻屠宰禁令從乳牛擴大至公牛與閹牛，並關閉屠宰場，使當地農夫難以出售家畜。禁令同時也擴大至其他BJP轄下的省份。

孟買國家公園的獅子、老虎與美洲豹也改吃雞肉或羊肉，而非平常慣吃的牛肉，因為當地最大屠宰場已經關閉兩周。

批評者指出，更嚴格的牛肉禁令有歧視穆斯林及基督教徒之虞，也波及印度教內的低階種性，因為他們需要較便宜的肉類做為蛋白質來源。全國性的禁令更可能使數千人失業。
