曾說「為了尊敬Michael Jordan，聯盟不該有人再穿23號」的LeBron James，回鍋騎士竟就穿23號！不過，「大帝」Jordan展現氣度，告訴媒體「那號碼又不是我的」。

James從高中畢業、加入NBA、進騎士隊的時候，原本就穿23號。2009年，LBJ在騎士隊最後一季，宣布要換新背號，「因為我覺得，Jordan為NBA做了那麼多事情，該用某種方式肯定他。」

「要是沒有Jordan，也就沒有後來的LeBron James、沒有Kobe Bryant、沒有Dwyane Wade。」LBJ當時說，「不過，Jordan已經沒辦法成為『The Logo』(Jerry West)，那該為他做點別的。」

James所謂「做點別的」，就是為Jordan退休23號。「我要發動請願，希望聯盟裡每個球員都簽，要是我不穿23號，那就沒有人能穿。」
