2014年8月16日是全球首款智慧型手機IBM Simon上市20週年，Simon配有4吋的LCD螢幕和手寫筆，可收發郵件、記筆記、遠程連接傳真機，Simon因設計太過於超前、價格昂貴等原因僅售出了5萬台。

Simon由IBM設計製造，許多功能與現在智慧型手機的基本功能接近，包括有日曆、記事本、郵件簡訊收發等，配置了4吋的LCD螢幕，還有一支手寫筆，不知道蘋果和三星的手機設計師是否受到了20年前的Simon手機的啟發。

Simon上市後得到了一些商務人士的認可，不過500g的重量、1小時的續航時間和高達899美元的售價，讓這款產品在上市兩年後就退出市場了，據悉IBM共售出了5萬台Simon，並未開發後續產品。

2014年10月智慧型手機鼻祖Simon將在英國倫敦科學博物館展出。
